![]() This alphabet indicates the fortnight in which the frame was built (i.e. Serial numbers should begin with a "W", which stands for Worksop, the facility that produced theses frames. I wrote down the serial number, and had a quick look at Sheldon Brown's website, which said, " In 1974, an entirely different numbering system was introduced for the higher end (531 and subsequently 753) Raleighs. The holes in my headtube look like they'd line up. Specifically, the pic in this post helped me make the connection. ![]() So I put it down, haven't looked at it all weekend, until I saw that there was a recent update to a thread which had an old Raleigh in it started by jaseyjase a fair while ago. ![]() My thought process went something like this: "Dammit, I'll have to get those filled. Then I noticed that there were some holes in the headtube where it looks like there was once a badge. My non-scientific weighing method told me that the frame weighs between 1.9 and 2.0 kilos. When I got it home, I stripped the parts off it and thought to myself, "gee, that feels light". It has "Remy" decals, a Repco fork, and has very obviously been repainted at some point, with really poor preparation. The guy I bought it from said that it is probably from the late 70's or early 80's. Wanted one for a possible singlespeed/fixie project.
